Getting started with the spin wheel
How do I use an online spin wheel?
Open the Random wheel, add names or options to the list, then click the wheel or press Ctrl+Enter. You will see the result in a few seconds. There is nothing to install, and it works in the browser on computers, tablets and phones.
Does TaroKit cost anything? Do I need an account?
No. All current features are free and you do not need an account. Just open the page and spin. Ads cover the cost of running the site.
Can I paste a list from Excel?
Yes. Copy a column from Excel and paste it into the list, or save the file as a CSV and import it, choosing which column holds names and which holds weights. After that you can shuffle, sort or remove duplicate names.
How many names can the wheel hold?
There is no set limit, and we have tested 5,000 items running smoothly. Each item can be up to 500 characters. With many items, the text on the wheel shrinks or hides, and the winner appears on the board above and in the list.
Will my list still be there next time?
Yes. Your list is saved automatically in this browser, separately for each scenario. To move to another device, use a share link or download a backup.
Fairness and odds
Is an online spin wheel fair? Can it be rigged?
Each item's chance depends only on its weight, and with no weights set, every item has the same chance. TaroKit uses your browser's built-in cryptographic random numbers, with rejection sampling to avoid the bias a simple remainder can cause. The code has no feature for choosing a winner.
Is the result decided by where the wheel stops?
No. The result is decided and stored the moment you press start, and only then does the animation play. The animation never changes it, and reloading the page does not draw again.
Why did the same name come up twice in a row?
With the same list and weights, each draw is independent. For example, if you draw 5 times from 12 equally weighted entries, the chance of at least one repeat is about 62%. To avoid repeats, exclude the selected entry after each draw.
How do weights work?
Weights range from 1 to 1000. An eligible entry’s chance is its weight divided by the total weight of eligible entries. If only A and B are eligible and their weights are 3 and 1, their chances are 75% and 25%. Excluded entries don’t count toward the total.
Does shuffling improve anyone's chances?
No. Shuffling only changes where items sit. Each item's chance stays the same.
Can I check the randomness myself?
Yes. Open the Randomness test, choose 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000 runs, and the same draw code will show how close each item's count comes to the expected number.
Office raffles and company events
Can I run an office party raffle with an online wheel?
Yes. Open the Office party raffle page, paste in your staff list, go Fullscreen on the big screen and draw round by round. You can put the prize in the wheel's title so everyone sees what is being drawn.
How do I stop the same person winning twice?
After a draw, press Exclude in the result window. That person leaves the wheel, and the odds are recalculated for everyone remaining.
Does it work for a company of several hundred people?
Yes. With a long list, the text on the wheel shrinks or hides, but the winner's name appears large on the board above, so it still reads well on a projector. We suggest a test draw on the actual computer and projector first.
Does the draw history count as proof for a public draw?
The draw history is only a local record in your browser, not third-party certification. For a public draw, we suggest recording or streaming the whole thing and downloading the CSV to keep the results.
Are raffle prizes taxable?
In many places, prizes and cash from a company raffle count as taxable income, and the company may have to report or withhold tax. Rules differ by country and change over time, so check with your tax authority or your company's accountant.
Picking students and meeting draws
How can teachers use the wheel to pick students at random?
Open the Random student picker page, paste in student names or numbers and show it on the classroom screen so everyone sees the result. If you would rather not show names, numbers work just as well.
How do I keep people who already presented out of the draw?
Untick them in the list and they leave the wheel. To bring everyone back, press Add all back. The Presenter & question picker page is set up for exactly this kind of rotation.
Can it help me decide what to eat?
Yes. What to eat comes with common options that you can swap for places near your office or school. Untick what you do not want, and raise the weight of what you want more often.
Live giveaways and OBS setup
How do I add the wheel to OBS for a live giveaway?
On the wheel page, open More settings, press Live mode and copy the dedicated URL. Then add a Browser source in OBS and paste it in. The background is transparent, so only the wheel and text appear. See the Live giveaway wheel page for the full scenario.
How do I spin it inside OBS?
Open the source in the OBS Interact window and press Space.
Does the stream update when I change the list?
No. The live URL holds the list as it was when you copied it, so copy the URL again after any change. The URL contains your list, so keep it private.
Privacy and data
Is my raffle list uploaded to a server?
Your list is stored in your browser. Share links and live URLs can contain the list, so anyone with the URL can see it. See our Privacy policy for details.
How do I delete my list and history?
In More settings, choose Reset list and history to restore the selected wheel’s sample title and list and clear its draw history. To clear just the draw history for the current page, use the History tab. To remove all local data, clear this site’s data in your browser.
My list is gone on my new computer. What should I do?
Lists stay in the original browser and do not sync through an account. Go back to the original device and use a share link or a backup to move the list across.
Ads and future tools
Why does the site have ads?
Ads keep TaroKit free with no sign-up. Fullscreen and Live mode stay free of ads.
Can I turn off personalized ads?
Yes. Our Privacy policy explains how to use Google Ads Settings and opt out of third-party vendors. You will still see ads, but they will no longer be based on your interests.
Will TaroKit add other tools?
Yes. TaroKit aims to become a set of free online tools, and the random wheel is the first. New tools fall under the same Terms and Privacy policy, and any special rules will be stated on the tool's page.
Who do I contact about a problem or a feature idea?
Email [email protected] and tell us what happened, what device you use, or what you would like to see.
Is there a tool for drawing numbers?
Yes. The Random number tool draws from 1 to 50 or any range, without repeats, and can leave out chosen numbers.
